[D3 LM] The Definite Article

Having secured his goats and changed out of his wet uniform, Cole reported to the medical facilities for his shift. His curls were damp, and he looked like he hadn't slept well, though his colour seemed better than the previous two days.

"Doc?" Galen limped in. "I'm going to need some help before we go looking for other patients, today."

The man was a bit of a mess. It was clear that he had taken a shot to the abdomen and one to the head. That he was walking was a testament to the value of stimpacks and determination. How he had managed to get his armor off and get any kind of sleep was a mystery, even to him.

Expression professionally neutral, Cole's blue-grey eyes were concerned. He guided Galen to a free bed, gently urging him to relax into the raised back. He tapped the arm of his spectacles, turning them on and letting the scans fill his vision. He made worried sound, gently taking hold of Galen's chin, "just turn your head like this," having the man look towards him.

"I'm going to move around to the other side, just keep looking off that way." He circled the bed, "I'm going to touch your neck now," he warned so the hunter wouldn't be startled. He talked as he worked, swabbing the man's neck, "you have a minor thrombosis," there was a pinching sensation as pressed a large-bore needle into the carotid artery. "It's the kind of thing that could be fine, or could cause complications in the future. So I'm just going to break it up," Galen would feel a pulling sensation in his neck, like a tendon straining, "better to be on the safe side."

Instead of breaking up, however, the clot dislodged. There was another tugging sensation as Cole removed the needle. "Okay, you can move now, but the news isn't good. The clot has moved, and I can't reach it like this. Come talk to me tomorrow, there's another method I can use. In the meantime, let's see what I can do about the wounds."

Galen did as directed and waited patiently as he was treated.

"I don't really know what the problem you mentioned is, but I definitely feel better. Thank you, doctor."

Grunting softly, "I wouldn't exactly declare you fighting fit, but you're not going to keel over any time soon."

"Which is great." he grinned. "That would make it hard to celebrate."

Cole seemed unenthused, "you mean securing the region?" he nodded. It was good news, but he didn't exactly feel like partying.

"That, and still being alive." he shrugged.

"If you feel up to it later, I'm planning on heading into Uthan Mil. I don't expect any trouble, but asking you along is better than having Captain Alderaan up in my shit for not being cautious enough."

"I'd be happy to tag along." he nodded. "Maybe I'll learn something."

“It’s a date then,” he nodded, mentally slotting his day together. “I’ll be looking to get to the city around midday, I can meet you somewhere if you have other plans. I understand there’s some crews going in to help the clean up efforts.”

Sabine stifled a yawn as she arrived to the medical, again, in fatigues, ready for the day. Well, ready for her check up. Again.

"Hello. I'm happy to wait here, at the end of the line..." there was some drowsiness in her voice, not even recognizing Galen from the other night.

“Morning, Sergeant,” Cole ran his fingers through his hair, he remembered the woman from their encounter with the Mandalorian Toboga. Snapping on a pair of fresh gloves, he waved to the bed next to Galen, “take a seat and let’s have a look.”

Sabine was hoping for some time to prepare for the tedium... but it was not to be. "Fiiiine."

She turned sideways, where the burn of the blasters were visible. "How do you do doc?"

“I’m good, thank you.” He examined the blaster wounds, applying a spray anaesthetic to numb the area just enough that she would feel nothing as he debrided the upper layer of skin. A steroid took down the residual swelling from the burns, and a layer of synthskin blended perfectly with the woman’s natural skin for a seamless protective layer that would act just like real flesh, gradually peeling away as the skin below renewed.

“That should have you feeling better, but I’m also going to prescribe you a large mug of strong kaff.”

"You're my favorite doctor." She replied heartily. "Been keeping well since we last saw each other?" She also waved at Galen absent mindedly.

"The doc does good work." Galen said as he stretched a bit. "I'd feel even better, if we could find the droid that shot us, though. Good morning, sergeant."

Peeling off his gloves, Cole ran a hand through his hair and rubbed the back of his neck. Heartened, but also somewhat sheepish about the praise. He was painfully aware that he'd just messed up a delicate procedure on Galen just minutes ago. "Thank you both," he seemed concerned at the news that the attacker had escaped.

"Speaking of kaff, would either of you like one?" It was his favourite piece of equipment in the facilities, and he'd been sure to adjust the settings as soon as he'd arrived to ensure the brew was strong, smooth, with only a hint of bitterness.

"That sounds lovely doc." She replied with a smile.

"Yeah, add another annoying coward to hunt down to the list."

Moving over to the machine, the smell of kaff filled the air, smooth and aromatic. "I hope it's found and reprogrammed," he commented over his shoulder. It took a few minutes for the machine to do its work, Cole turning around and handing out the mugs.

"I was thinking of putting a few more dozen holes in it." Galen shrugged. "But, reprograming it works too."

A half shrug, “holes work too, but it seems like a waste.”

"Well, I hope we can get some useful intelligence out of it at least. We are woefully light on that sadly." She sighed, then smiled as she took a sip of kaff. "Doc, you are in the wrong career."

Running a hand through his hair, Cole rubbed the back of his neck, “ah, that’s just a hobby of mine. Or an addiction.”
