Aran had several things going for him in the sabacc game: a firm grasp of the rules, a moderate amount of experience, an ability to read people's tells even without the Force, and a face partially concealed with his sun-shades and schooled to a fairly consistent affect. However, he had no particular sense of how to combine all of these things into any sort of strategy, and tended to chase longshot hands at least as eagerly as solid bets. The last one made him unpredictable in a way that could wrong-foot experienced players expecting him to be more thoughtful, but it was not statistically sound.
Win or lose, he remained cheerful and focused on keeping the table talk going. "Ah, I'm out. So, Teffa, what's the most eventful game you've played?"
